Goodbye Minnie…

Well, my dear friend Minnie has gone to the Lord. We went as a group to her funeral, and I drove Emma in my car. It was a beautiful service – she had 17 great grandchildren from two children. Plus other members of the family. They had a screen with photos of her at different stages of life. And they had some old hymns being sung by a woman accompanied by a banjo player and guitar player. We were allowed to see her before the service. Much like my mother, she looked to be merely sleeping. Anyway, she’s in a better place, but we will miss her down at the center. I know when I go to the next Bingo I will be thinking of her – we often sat close by or across from each other, along with Emma.

Afterward I drove Emma to Food Lion. I needed groceries myself and managed to not spend very much. Trying some new (to me) breakfast biscuits, but sometime I want to sit down and figure out the cost of making my own and see how much it comes out to. It would be a couple hours work (plus cleanup) but it might be worth it for the number of biscuits – or I could use another kind of bread and not have to bake anything. (Toaster ovens aren’t great for making large batches.) Speaking of which, that’s another thing I look forward to after moving – having a real oven again.

Down at the senior center I let them know I will likely be back in the group after I’m able to move. Partly because the lunch meals are free and partly because it will keep me from eating the stuff I shouldn’t be eating! lol I did have my one restaurant meal day before yesterday. From the Family Corner Deli, I got a cheeseburger and a piece of Key Lime Pie. I should call ahead though, it’s a wait when you walk in and order.

Today I didn’t get much done. I stayed up too late and so rather unenergetic. I think I used it all on the game I was playing on Oculus Quest last night. One of those survival plus points kind of games where you shoot enemies and crystals and collect things. I got all the way to the point where you defend the Eye of Osirus, and that’s where I failed. There was no “hiding spot” like there was on the other levels and they send out about five snipers at once. Unless I discover something to hide behind, I don’t think I’ll be able to win that level.

Speaking of Oculus Quest… Why do all the kids on there sound like my grandsons when they were younger? lol And the kiddies on there are LOUD! Though at one point in my game, there was a child I could hear and he could hear me but we were apparently not in the same room. He said he was completely in the dark. Eventually he left. Afraid I wasn’t much help there.

I did get my wish for rain, but not as much as they predicted. Still I think it cleaned off my car cover. I will check in the morning. Tomorrow I will try to get more done. Perhaps load up the car again with storage. Realtors are out there just waiting to pounce. I hope they get someone who will plan on rebuilding (or tearing down and building new) this house. I/We spent a lot on that kitchen floor, but it gave me several more years here I think.

I got my money’s worth – 5 years at 500 per month (MINIMUM) is $30,000. And I bought it for $19k. It’s kept me warm and dry and on a street where criminals don’t venture down – mainly because no one knows it’s here. It helped me get by before SS kicked in. I’ll leave my washing machine (the dryer was already here) and refrigerator (it was here too). But I’ll take my air conditioner and put that in storage perhaps.

I can take mom’s big mountains picture, but I guess I worry about it getting damaged or not being able to use big enough wall hangers for it. The thing is huge (and beautiful). I hope I will have room for my exercycle, but if not, I know I will be walking more. Just to get out of the apartment and not being a sitting duck for all the older ladies who get lonesome. lol (I like having friends, but not interruptions to work very much. I’d rather have certain days and times than random knocks on the door. Like I only visit one of my friends on Sundays after church and not every week either. (We talk through Facebook as well.)

It’s time for fruit for the piggies, so I’d better do that and finish up things so I can go to bed.
